A healing prayer session

What to expect

Simple, reverent prayer. No theatrics. No pressure.

Wilt thou be made whole?

John 5:6

Three ways to meet

By phone

Anywhere. We talk and pray at the time we set.

By video

Anywhere. Face to face, from wherever you are.

In person

In the Phoenix area, when we can arrange it. We agree on the place together. Bring a family member or friend if you like.

A session for a child always includes a parent or guardian, the whole time.

Step by step

Before

  1. You ask.

Send a request. Share only what you want to share. I read every request and reply to you personally.

  2. We set a time.

We choose phone, video, or in person. I give times in Arizona time and in yours. Arizona time does not change for daylight saving.

During

  1. We begin with God.

We make the Sign of the Cross. We ask the Holy Spirit to lead our prayer. We ask Our Lady and St. Raphael to pray with us.

  2. You bring your need.

Tell the Lord what you are asking for, in your own words. Say as much or as little as you like.

  3. We listen in prayer.

We pray with a short passage of Scripture, then pray in silence. If something comes to mind, I ask first: “May I share something that came to mind as we prayed?” You weigh it against Scripture and the Church's teaching. It is never a prediction, a diagnosis or a message from heaven.

But prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

    1 Thessalonians 5:21
  4. We pray for healing.

I pray aloud for you in the name of Jesus Christ. We may pray a decade of the Rosary or the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. In person, I may ask to rest a hand on your shoulder. Only if you say yes.

  5. We give it to God.

We close with the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be. We ask God's blessing and leave everything to His will.

After

  1. Carry it home.

Keep praying. Go to Mass, and to Confession if you're Catholic. Send a prayer request whenever you need one.

  2. Keep your doctors close.

Keep seeing your doctors and follow their care. Never stop or change a treatment because of anything said in prayer. Prayer and good medicine belong together.

Honour the physician for the need thou hast of him: for the most High hath created him.

    Ecclesiasticus 38:1

Some needs belong to a priest

Only a priest can give the Anointing of the Sick. If you are seriously ill, elderly and frail, or facing a serious operation, ask your parish priest for it. For Confession, go to a priest.

If you fear that something evil is at work, talk to your parish priest, and to your doctor as well. Judging that is a priest's work, not mine.

Is any man sick among you? Let him bring in the priests of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

James 5:14

How to prepare

  • Find a quiet place, if you can.
  • Bring a rosary, if you pray with one.
  • Write down what you want to ask for, if that helps.
  • Come as you are. There is nothing to get right.

What you share

I keep what you share private, except where the law requires otherwise or a life is in danger.

In crisis? Call or text 988. In an emergency, call 911.

Ready when you are.

Tell me a little about what you carry. I read every request.

Prayer, not medical care.
